Metal is also the go-to choice for 3D letters and channel lettering that need to hold their shape outdoors for years. The trade-off is cost and weight: metal fabrication takes longer and is generally a bigger investment than acrylic.

The Case for Acrylic Signage

Acrylic is lightweight, budget-friendly, and incredibly versatile. It can be laser-cut into intricate shapes, backlit for a soft glow effect, and finished in almost any colour. This makes it a favourite for retail interiors, reception signage, and directional signs where design flexibility matters more than heavy-duty outdoor exposure. Acrylic is also faster to produce, which helps when you’re working to a tight opening date.

Which Should You Choose?

As a rule of thumb: choose metal for long-term outdoor signage that needs to withstand the elements and project permanence, and choose acrylic for interior signage, backlit displays, and projects where design detail and speed matter most.
